The overwhelming majority of users voted in favor of re-purposing the headquarters of the micro-blogging site as Musk suggested, with over 90 percent of the votes cast for "Y".

Musk appeared to be taking aim at the policy. In the early months of the COVID-19 Pandemic, Jack Dorsey told employees they could work from home indefinitely.

San Francisco, a wealthy city that is home to several prominent tech companies, has a large population of homeless people. There were an estimated 5,200 homeless people in San Francisco in 2020.

Last week it was revealed that Musk had amassed a 9.2% stake in the company. Musk had been appointed to the board.

Musk often polls his followers, sometimes posing serious questions. In recent weeks, he has asked his followers whether or not they believe in free speech, and whether or not they would like to be able to edit their tweets.

On Thursday, Musk posted a photo of himself smoking a joint, with the caption: "Twitter's next board meeting is gonna be lit."
