The 20th anniversary event for the franchise saw the announcement of Kingdom Hearts IV.

Kingdom Hearts III was released in 2019. Kingdom Hearts II came out a decade after that entry. There were multiple spin-off titles between those numbered entries. Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is a music game that will be released after Kingdom Hearts III.

It's something of a surprise that this announcement is relatively soon.

The first trailer for the game shows an older Sora in a city. Goofy and Donald Duck are shown at the end of the reveal. There is no release date or listed platforms for the game.

Kingdom Hearts: missing-link is a more modest title that appears to be a prequel story.

The realistic city setting is not a surprise to any Kingdom Hearts fans who played the game or watched the secret ending. The first story of the series centered around the villain Xehanort. The Kingdom Hearts game has a continuing plot thread that picks up from the end of the previous game.
