The biggest play at first base in the season opener may have been a supportive hug.

The new Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman knew that Iglesias was feeling sad.

Iglesias pointed to the sky as he was overcome by emotion after reaching on a run- scoring single. Iglesias told the man that he had just lost his dad, who had seen every big league hit until this one.

An instant bond. When he was 10, he lost his mom to cancer.

I just tried to be there for him, console him and know that it's more than a game. I would never have known that he had lost his father if he hadn't told me. I think it reminds you to be kind to others and to have some compassion.

In that moment, I wanted to hug that guy.

Iglesias appreciated the words of support from the Braves. Iglesias was pulled in for a hug by the man who tapped him on the helmet.

Iglesias' father was from Cuba and he knows what it feels like.

Iglesias talked about how his father worked long hours in the factory when he was a child. He would always take his son to the baseball field even if he was tired.

Iglesias said that his dream was to play in the big leagues. He is in a better place now, watching me.

The moment hit him as well.

It started making me think about my mom. There is no word on whether that is really going to be enough.

His father was helping him to get that single. You will never forget your dad. All I could do was give him a hug.

After leading the Atlanta Braves to a World Series championship last season, Freddie Freeman signed a six-year, $162 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. It was bigger than baseball on Friday.

We're all friends in this game, we have different uniforms, but you take the uniforms off. You get to meet a lot of great people.

His family loves baseball just as much as I do. I'm happy to be a part of it and I want to let him know that I care about him.
