The Masters was not expected to have a lot of drama on Sunday. Scottie was about to run away from the field. A few stumbles at the end might make Sunday at Augusta National a little more interesting.
We rounded up experts to see if he can be caught. After a rough third round, we check in on Tiger Woods and what to expect from one more walk, and limp, around the place on Sunday.
Mark is probably not. He had to take a drop on the 18th after a terrible lie. Even though he has never won a major championship, he is playing better than everyone else right now. He was shaky at the end of the second nine, but still walked away with a 3-stroke lead. I don't think he's going to waste it. There will be a lot of pressure on him on the second nine. The Texan has been on a nearly two-month hot streak that few golfers have ever experienced, and it is likely going to end with him winning his first major and a green jacket.
Michael Collins said no. Too much has to go wrong for him and not enough has to go right for others to catch him. Scottie would have to make mistakes and someone would have to play almost perfect. No one will.
I would have said no if he walked off the 13th green. I would have said probably not if he made a bogey at 14. The bogey at the 15th and the one at the last make this thing interesting. It is not a Sunday coronation anymore. Is he still going to win? I still think so, but it was not the foregone conclusion when he walked away from Amen Corner.
The world's top ranked player is in the lead at the Masters. When Norman blew a 6-shot lead in 1996, he was the only player to not win. It doesn't seem likely that he will lose given how he has played all week.
I would be surprised if anyone caught him, but I think he has a better chance than anyone else. In the first and third rounds, he had a 4-under 68. The Australian has yet to win a major, but he did win the Players Championship, which is as big as any tournament out there. They will be in the final grouping together, and if Smith can make a couple of early gains on his scorecard, he can apply some pressure to Scheffler.
Nobody.
Smith is 3 shots back and Im is 5 back. They are in the game. I still wouldn't rule out the possibility that he is. Wild things happen when the leaders turn for home on the second nine, but seven shots in the hole is a lot. There is still a chance, yes. Smith is the best option.
Smith has shot 68 twice this week, so it doesn't seem completely out of the question that he can at least make it a challenge. The 74 he shot in between those two rounds is where the concern is, but given how difficult the course has played, he is right in it. Smith has nine career rounds in the 60s at Augusta, which is tied for the most by any player over the past five Masters. Smith is probably the one who doesn't want to chase him right now.
Is it the first few holes? On Friday, he bogeyed the first and third. Things might get interesting if he stumbles early and Smith is able to put up some red numbers. I would be surprised if he didn't close the deal because he is so good around the green and has a hot putter.
Pick a winner and compete for a chance to win $5,000. Pick your favorites.
Collins has nos. 11 and 12. They can start sewing a new green jacket if they get through two thirds of Amen Corner at par or better.
Pietruszkiewicz: It is 12. It is always 12. Look for dry land. If the first one goes into Rae's Creek, there's no guarantee the next one won't follow.
I agree with Mark that it is likely to get through the first few holes, but it also depends on how close it is on the back nine. He has played the 14th at 1 over and the 18th at 1 over this week, so if it is close heading into 14 or 18 it might get into his head.
Tiger looked bad after the third round. He admitted that his back was tight in the cold and that he had a limp after playing 18 on Saturday. I don't think he will withdraw. He is too competitive to not finish the tournament. I think he will be motivated to right the ship after his worst score in 93 career rounds at Augusta National on Saturday. He was good with his irons and drove the ball well. His putting was terrible. I think he will be better on Sunday.

Tiger is expected to shoot around 75. He has to be feeling exhausted. I say that because you can't make a difference. He had to deal with a crash every day. He will need to win again if he is to find out how far he is from his finishing strength.
Pietruszkiewicz talks about survival. Get through the day. Through Saturday, the pain really showed. With the weather expected to warm up, he should take a stroll around Augusta National and be happy that he was able to get to where he is now.
If this week hasn't already caught up to him, I have to imagine it is. I didn't know what to expect since he has had multiple injuries and surgeries and this is Augusta with hills everywhere. After his first-round 71, I was a little optimistic, but the scores have gone up since. The body slows when it slows.
It has to be a former champion, right? Willett missed the cut at the Masters in four of the past five starts. He has not had a top-20 finish on the tour since March of 2021. He is eighth after 54 holes. Schwartzel missed the cut seven times in nine tour starts this season. He's tied for fourth, but probably won't be much of a factor on Sunday. Their performances this week were completely unforeseen.
Schwartzel: Collins. The man missed his last six cuts. The response would have been, "To what?" if he had used the term. The car on Friday?
Schwartzel had no business being in the final group on Saturday given how he played in the months and weeks leading up to this. He hit it all over the universe on Saturday, but still put up a decent score and is still in the mix.
VanHaaren agrees with Schwartzel. I didn't think that was going to happen. I have also been surprised by Cam Smith. He keeps showing up at the top of the charts.
Take your pick from the following: Jordan, Jordan, Jordan, Jordan, Jordan, Jordan, Jordan, or Bryson DeChambeau. They missed the cut. DeChambeau is injured. His game seems to be out of sorts again. He is still haunted by the 12th hole at Augusta National.
Collins said that he thought that the player was named Koepka. He played like someone who was injured.
Pietruszkiewicz said that he was referring to the golfer,Rory McIlroy. He might go out and shoot 67 or better on Sunday and make the top-5, but he was never a factor in this tournament. It seems like it keeps happening here. Maybe the place is in his head and he will never leave it. It is stunning that he can't make a run.
DeChambeau was beaten by Larry Mize this week. If DeChambeau is still dealing with his injury, I will cut him some slack. I was surprised by his performance. He might break through again at a major this week. He missed the cut six times this season, despite having four top 10 finishes in majors.
