Billy Horschel let his temper get the best of him at Augusta National.
On the 11th hole in the third round of the Masters on Saturday, he pulled his second shot into a pond left of the green. The club was thrown into the ground because of the mistake.
The dropped shot dropped him to 5 over in the tournament.
On the par 3 12th, he made a layup. He hit another ball into Rae's Creek on the 13th hole, resulting in a bogey. He did not throw his club that time.
He had a double-bogey on 18 and finished with a 7-over 79. He is 10 over after 36 holes.
In the final round of the Masters last year, Horschel apologized to Augusta National, its members and patrons. He was caught on camera slamming a wedge into his bag.
He wrote in a post on his account that he was a fiery competitor and that the fire inside him sometimes ran hot. This leads to some instances where my conduct is not what I want to show to the younger generation.
I apologize to Augusta National, the Members of the Club and to the patrons for any conduct that may have crossed the line. I try to improve and do better as a golfer, husband, father, or as a human being. Thank you for a great week at the Masters!
