The Grand National was won by Noble Yeats, who was a 50-1 outsider.

The favourite Any Second Now was held off by Waley-Cohen in a thrilling finish.

Noble Yeats is the first seven-year-old horse to win since 1940.

The winning jockey said it was a fairytale and a fantasy.

Two days before the big race, Waley-Cohen announced his retirement.

He had the best record over the National course of any current jockey going into the contest, with six wins in other races, and signed off with a brilliant retirement ride.

It was the first victory for an amateur jockey in twenty years.

Robert Waley-Cohen bought Noble Yeats two months ago.

Sam Waley-Cohen, the owner of Long Run and the former chairman of Cheltenham racecourse, was overjoyed at the success of the Gold Cup.

Robert said it was the dream come true.

I feel like quoting Shakespeare. I am really emotional.
