The Toronto Blue Jays came back from a seven-run deficit to beat the Texas Rangers 10-8 in the evening. Jeff and Jeremy scored home runs that were unforgettable.

The San Francisco Giants and Miami Marlins began their journeys on Friday.

Takeaways from Friday's action

The Blue Jays are the favorite to win the American League East and go to the World Series, according to 38 voters. The belief is that the rotation and the bullpen are good. The lineup is the main reason so many are in Toronto. Lefty Gomez once said that the Blue Jay's muscles have muscles on top of them. They came back from a seven point deficit before a large crowd at Rogers Centre. Teoscar was 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 He has slugged.538 over the past two seasons, despite being overlooked on a team with Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette and George Springer. As often as those three will get on base in front of him, he is a good bet to lead the American League in batting average. They did it 23 times last season and are a good bet to do it again.

The Los Angeles Dodgers lineup, largely by us, was eerily quiet in its season opener, managing one hit and six strikeouts through the first three frames. The top of the fourth was an example of the offense&s ability to strike at a moment's notice. A Will Smith single was followed by a Chris Taylor double and four other batters reached with two outs. Gavin Lux was a single. Mookie Betts had a double. Freddie walked. Turner reached for it. The Dodgers scored five runs by the end of the half-inning, which was all they would need. Four of their starters reached base multiple times. It was more than enough.

One of the questions surrounding the San Francisco Giants coming off an amazing 107-win season centered on whether the ace of this pitching staff, Logan Webb, was ready to assume a role as the ace of this pitching staff. Brandon Belt was on a boat on opening day. Despite a shortened spring training, the Miami Marlins were shut out by the devastating changeup-slider-sinker combination of Ryan Webb. After giving up three ninth-inning runs, Camilo Doval was removed from the game and replaced by Thairo Estrada. The Giants hope to repeat as division champion, and it looks like they will get a boost from the appearance of Webb.

On a day of debuts at Target Field, for one day at least, the Mariners got their money's worth fromRobbie Ray, both in terms of quality and quantity.

Ray threw 96 pitches and held the Twins to a lone run, as he made his debut on Friday.

Other debuts did not go as well. The attention was on Carlos as he was introduced to his new fans in the Twin Cities. After a single in the first, Correa was thrown out at the plate on a double play and finished the game 1-for-4.

After the game, he was positive.

The atmosphere was great. It was a great game. The pitching did a great job. The defense was solid. It was tough hitting today. He had some good stuff.

In his first game for the Twins, Gary Sanchez went 0-for-4 and flew out to the wall off Drew Steckenrider to end the game, falling a couple of feet short of a game-winning, two-run home run. On a scale of 1 to 10, the flip of his bat was probably a 3.

I was able to hit it up, and I thought it was gone. Today was not the day.

The two new-look teams played on a cold, clear day in Minnesota.

For one day at least, the Mariners can believe that the man they signed was the same as the one who won the American League Cy Young last season. It has to be exciting for a team trying to get into the playoffs.

What did you think would happen on opening day? They used a number of pitchers and pinch hitters, with the new pitcher, Brooks Raley, getting the save by striking out the runner at the end of the game. Raley had two saves for the Astros last season, one in a 9-1 game and the other in an extra-inning game. The club had a record 14 different pitchers record a save. Kevin Cash has the ability to deploy any pitcher at any time. The other story of the game was that Wander Franco is a contender to win the batting title at age 21. His first hit was an infield single, his second a semi-soft line drive to left, but then in his final two at bats, he lined out to first on a 109.1 mph laser and single to right on a 109.7 mph line drive. We are going to see a lot of three-hit games next to his name.

I have a feeling I will be watching a lot of the games this season. The NL East is going to be a three-team fight between the Braves, Mets and Phils, but the team that is going to be more entertaining is the Phils.

Kyle Schwarber, J.T. Realmuto, Nick Castellanos, and BryceHarper are the top five in the lineup. A lot of power, a lot of walks and a nice mix. Schwarber led off his career with a home run, and five of his teammates went 7-for-19 with four walks, seven runs and six RBIs. If this will be a great lineup, the bottom of the order will determine it. It might have to be given the concerns about the defense and the bullpen.

Josh Donaldson made a strong first impression on Yankees fans with a 2-for6 performance from the leadoff spot and a walk-off single in the 11th as the Yankees defeated the Red Sox.

The Yankees ace struggled in the first, allowing a two-run home run to Rafael Devers and three runs total, but eventually settled down and went four strong frames, allowing one walk and four hits.

The Yankees right fielder put together a strong performance, collecting two hits, including a double, and a run scored, on a day where the biggest news was Judge's contract negotiations. It was clear that he was important to the New York offense.

It took all of one game for the Red Sox and Yankees to remind fans that they will always find a way to make games as long as possible, as the season opener went for 3 hours, 56 minutes.

Different uniform, same El Mago. Javy Baez walked it off for the Tigers with a single off the wall in the bottom of the ninth to score AustinMeadows with the winning run. Baez always entertains. He struck out in his first two at-bats, but he made a great defensive play between those plate appearances. He contributed to an eighth-inning rally and then won it in the ninth. On the second day of the baseball season, the ball hit the wall as right fielder AJ Pollock mishandled it, and the game ended on a review.

The Giants' carousel in left field

The San Francisco Giants have had a hard time replacing Barry Bonds.

Joc Pederson, who has played for a World Series champion each of the past two years, joined the Giants on a one-year, $6 million contract in March. Pederson became the 16th different Opening Day left fielder in the last 16 seasons.

That is correct.

The full list from the year of 2007 to the year of 2022.

Pederson will be their only left fielder. The Giants change their lineup to maximize platoon advantages. It is a remarkable development. The Giants left fielders have had a collective OPS of.723, fifth lowest in the majors, since Bonds final season.

Takeaways from Thursday's action

play

The Cubs have a 2-0 lead over the Brewers.

The game of the day? Easily. Beer hit a walk-off home run on national beer day. Good luck topping that, Shohei Ohtani or Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Beer's three-run blast in the bottom of the ninth gave the D-backs a 4-2 win over the Padres, but you can't top that until there is a day named after you.

Beer said when he woke up his wife told him it was National Beer Day. It was the second career home run for the designated hitter, who went 4-for-9 in a major league cameo in 2021. He gave the victory to the D-backs in which Yu Darvish had pitched a no-hitter for the Padres. He is the first rookies to hit a walk-off home run on opening day. Cheers from David Schoenfield.

Shohei Ohtani performed well, but the rest of his Angels teammates didn't. Sound familiar? The Angels couldn't get anything going against Framber Valdez on opening day in 2021. Ohtani looked really good in his debut, and there is a clear bright side to it. Angels manager Joe Maddon wants to keep his starters around that number early on to make up for the shortened spring training, and Ohtani recorded 14 outs, allowed only one run and struck out nine batters before exiting with 80 pitches. Ohtani had his first full season as a pitcher in five years. His location and command improved as it progressed. It has carried over into 2022. He could be even better in 2022.

After Jacob deGrom hurt his shoulder, Tylor Megill was given the opening day start for the Mets. He hasn't been 230 since high school, so he's a big dude and as you might expect, he throws. He isn't expected to be the Mets' ace or anything close to it, but he has some serious potential.

The biggest pitch of his night was in the third when the Nationals had runners at the corners with one out and Juan Soto at the plate. Megill got ahead 1-2, Soto took a 98 mph pitch a hair or two off the plate, and then Megill blew a 97 mph heater past him. He got Nelson Cruz to ground out and then breezed through two more frames, finishing with five zeros and no walks. Pick this guy up if you play fantasy baseball.

The Reds might not have opened the season in their usual way, but that didn't matter. The Braves banner-unveiling party at Truist Park was spoiled by the work of starter Tyler Mahle. The right-handed pitcher struck out seven and gave up one unearned run in a five-inning outing. The Reds hope that he can build upon his performance for the start of April.

It was the most impressive moment of the night. He ended the third with a comeback liner that left Marcell Ozuna with a 104.5 mph exit velocity. The most impressive audio moment of the night? Joey Votto, the Reds first baseman, was miked up throughout the game and had his share of fun interactions.

The starting lineup for the first time in over a year was made up of Albert Pujols, Yadier Molina, and Adam Wainwright. It wasn't quite the storybook return to St. Louis for Pujols that everyone wanted.

The PA announcer for the game said that Pujols was back and that the fans gave him a standing ovation. Pujols wiped away some tears as the fans chanted "Al-bert!" in his first at-bat. The joyful chorus was heard many times during his initial 11 seasons with the Cards. He flew out to left field and was 0-for-5.

Can he help the team? That is the risk of bringing back an aging great. If he fails, it puts Marmol in a tough spot. Pujols started this game against a right-handed pitcher, but Marmol wasn't going to sit him on opening day, so Pujols will serve as the designated hitter against left-handed pitchers. Let's hope there is enough juice left in the bat to help in that small role.

play

Joey Votto discussed his social media presence, desire to get a gold tooth and chats with Ozzie Albies while mic'd up with the ESPN booth.

The last time the Kansas City Royals had a starting pitcher was more than 2000 years ago. Greinke's greatest asset has always been his mind, even better than his pitches or changeup. Greinke will forge his path to the Hall of Fame because of his approach to pitching and his youth.

To see Bobby Witt Jr.'s go-ahead double in the eighth, which was highlighted by the top prospect.

Greinke still understands how to get outs despite the radar gun not lighting up as it used to and the batters not swinging and miss as they used to. Some lineups will be more difficult to navigate. Even with Kansas City's incredible defense, a single strikeout in 5th is not a long-term recipe for success. Greinke received a huge applause in his return. The prodigal son returned on the day of the future of the franchise.

play

Albert Pujols gets a standing ovation in the first at-bat of his career.

The Cubs defeated the Brewers in the first game of the MLB season in 2022. Hoerner hit the first home run of the season off of Burnes. That is correct, you read that. Hoerner became the first player in two years to hit a home run on opening day. Burnes walked the first batter he faced in 2022, after the Brewers ace set a major league record by striking out 58 before issuing his first base on balls. You cannot predict baseball.

Burnes issued a free pass to a Japanese player who walked twice and scored a run in his MLB debut.

Trout is ready to stay healthy, win in the playoffs

It has been six years since Mike Trout played a full season without missing time because of injury.

He has noticed.

When asked about the importance of playing a full season, Trout said it was his main goal. The Los Angeles Angels star center fielder, who spent the last four-plus months of the 2021 regular season out with a calf injury that became far more serious than expected, has a new program with the team that emphasizes flexibility and mobility in his lower body. It is hoped that it will make a difference.

He said that in the past he would wake up sore and have to grind through it.

Shohei Ohtani put together a historic season as a two-way player, but the Angels lost 85 games. They played in the same lineup for only 17 of their 162 games. Their health, along with the addition of Noah Syndergaard and a deeper bullpen, has Trout believing he might finally win his first playoff game this year.

You might have heard that Trout, the greatest player of his generation, has yet to win a game in the playoffs.

He is 30 years old.

His 12th season is this one.

Trout said he was tired of hearing it. We are eager to go.

Welcome to the league

Getting called up to the majors is a big moment for a baseball player. Some touching moments were produced for the teams and players after players were notified that they made their teams.

The pitcher was told by manager David Ross that he made the opening day roster. Roberts was emotional after he was drafted by the Cubs. The first game of the season is between the Cubs and Brewers.
