The price of Amazon Prime is going up in Canada just months after the company announced a price increase for US subscribers.

The price increase is the first for Canadian subscribers. Amazon charges $8 a month for an annual subscription. Prime memberships in Canada will cost $10 per month after the price increase. Student subscriptions will increase from $4 to $5.

The price change will take effect on April 8th for new subscribers and after May 13th for existing members, according to Andrew Gouveia, a spokesman for Amazon Canada. The news was reported by the Toronto Star.

Prime memberships in the US will increase to US $139 per year from US $119. Monthly memberships in the US went from $13 to $15 per month.

In a statement this week, the company said that it is expanding its value for members by including a growing library of Prime Video originals, faster shipping, one-day delivery with no minimum purchase on select items, and broadening Prime services.
