The benches cleared during the New York Mets - Washington Nationals game on Friday night after Mets infielder Francisco Lindor was hit in the helmet by a pitch.
As Lindor lay face down in the batter's box, Mets manager Buck Showalter was livid a day after first baseman Pete Alonso was left bleeding on a high-and-tight pitch. Umpires separated the players and staff after Showalter yelled at Cishek. There were no punches thrown.
Lindor, who was hit by a pitch on the C-flap portion of his helmet meant to protect players from severe injury on hit-by-pitches, stood up quickly but left the game. Cishek was thrown out.
Lindor passed concussion testing after X-rays on his jaw were negative.
Showalter said before the game that he was not happy about the three Mets players being hit by pitches, but he didn't expect any long-term effects.
In the top of the fifth, Lindor tried to put the ball in play and Cishek threw his second pitch after coming into the game to replace Gray. Lindor, who signed a $341 million deal with the Mets last season, fell to the ground and writhed as an on-field microphone picked up a voice saying, "Oh my god."
The surprise at his ejection was clear. He pleaded with the umpires. What do you want me to do about that?
