Jeep teased what the off-roader could look like as a fully electric vehicle with an updated Magneto 2.0 concept EV. Jeep didn't mention any hardware upgrades for its custom-built motor, but it appears to have made some significant performance refinements from last year's model.
The motor of the Magneto 2.0 is now capable of delivering for up to 10 seconds at higher peak amperage. It has up to 850 pound-feet of Torque, more than triple what it had last year.
quicker than a Tesla Model X Plaid and Rivian R1S
It is rare for an EV to have a six-speed manual transmission, but the Jeep Magneto 2.0 has one. The 2.0 looks a bit more like a performance vehicle without the bulky winch than it does theelectrified blue and white coloring.
The front grille is painted black, there is a custom bikini top with white stripes on the sides, and there is a subtle blue color on the rear. The vehicle has been lifted three inches instead of two, and it has 20-inch wheels with 40-inch tires.
The extended wheelbase allowed the team to stretch the gas Wrangler model by 12 inches, allowing space for the electric drivetrain. The Jeep Magneto 2.0 has enough clearance to safely rock-climb and trail-blaze and is said to have proportions similar to the 2004 Jeep Wrangler.
The original 70 kWh battery system is split into four parts and distributed around the body to give a more even weight distribution. The original Magneto was 3.5 times quicker than the 2.0 version. The Magneto 2.0 concept is quicker than the Model X Plaid, Rivian R1S, Ford Mustang Mach-E GT, and GMC Hummer EV.
It would be great if the battery range was shared, since it would be a great metric to compare to the real electric Jeep planned for next year. The Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee are the only plug-in hybrid models in the lineup.
The Jeep Magneto 2.0 concept is one of several shown off by the Jeep Performance Parts Mopar team. The collection of concepts and customs will be in Utah from April 9th through the 17th for the annual Moab Easter Jeep Safari.
