In 1998, Brooklyn-based hip-hop superstars Talib Qweli and yasiin bey found themselves recording at the same time, each working on a solo album. They decided to put their individual projects on hold and make a joint album with the help of DJ and producer Hi-Tek. One of the most critically acclaimed albums in the history of hip-hop was produced by Mos Def and Talib Kweli.

Black Star's sophomore album, No Fear of Time, will be released on May 3rd. For indiscernible reasons, the collective is exclusive to the Luminary network.

About 3-4 years ago I was visiting yasiin in Europe and we started to talk about songs to do on an album, so I flew an engineer out just to see what that would be. I started making sure to have the engineer around at all times once I realized that the conversation was starting to become a creative one. We were in a hotel listening to Madlib beats and he started doing rhymes to the beats. The first song was done that way.

This is very similar to how we did the first album. There were no mobile studios in the first album. We haven't set foot in a single studio to record this album. It has been done in hotel rooms and backstage at Dave Chappelle shows.

The album will be released on May 3rd. You will need a subscription or access to Apple Podcasts in order to listen.
