Some of the oldest material in the universe may have been glimpsed by scientists.

Researchers found an object that was nearly 13 billion light years away. Live Science points out that the object is almost the age of the universe itself, meaning it is some of the most ancient stuff out there.

The object could reveal a lot about early-universe objects and events, according to the Harvard professor who worked on the study.

The first galaxies were a millionth of the mass of the Milky Way. One way to think of them is as the building blocks of the construction of a new universe.

Big Mystery

The scientists aren't quite ready to say what the object is, how old it is, or if it is a galaxy. There is a chance that HD1 could be a giant black hole.

If HD1 is a black hole, we should see X-ray emission from it.

We can rely on a new asset to deliver the goods on the new discovery. According to Live Science, researchers hope to get images and details about HD1 from NASA's largest and most powerful new telescope.

The telescope launched recently after years of delay, but is finally ready to begin capturing scientific images.

It's not clear what can be said about HD1, if the mighty Webb can tell us more.

There are more on off-world escapades.
