EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said in a statement that the EU is not targeting ordinary Russian people.

The aim of our sanctions is to stop the reckless, inhuman, and aggressive behavior of the Russian troops and make clear to the decision makers in the Kremlin that their illegal aggression comes at a heavy cost.

The US imposed sanctions on Putin's adult daughters on Wednesday.

The White House said in a press release that these individuals enriched themselves at the expense of the Russian people.

This action cuts them off from the US financial system and freezes their assets in the US.

Hundreds of people were found dead in the city of Bucha last weekend after Ukrainian forces captured it from Russian troops who had occupied it for weeks. At least 50 people were killed and dozens of others were wounded when Putin's forces attacked a train station in eastern Ukraine.
