A cargo jet split in half after sliding off the runway as it made an emergency landing in Costa Rica.

When the plane requested permission to return, it had only traveled 35 miles from the Costa Rican airport.

There was a failure in the Boeing 757-200.

The freighter slowed down upon landing with its brakes smoking. It skids 180 degrees on the runway.

The right wing breaks off before the aircraft breaks in half.

There was damage to the plane upon landing at the Juan Santamaria airport in Costa Rica.

The crew were unharmed in the incident. A crew member is being precautionary. We are working with the airport authorities to move the aircraft from the runway so that normal airport operations can be resumed as soon as possible.

The authorities at the airport said that the aircraft was not affecting operations and that they were working together to move it.
