The Los Angeles Lakers need to make some major changes after a disastrous 2021-22 season that will see them miss both the playoffs and play-in tournament.

Will one of those changes make it easier to trade for Anthony Davis?

Davis told Dave McMenamin on Thursday that he didn't think they were planning on doing anything with him. I don't know.

Even if his injury history continues to be a concern, it is hard to imagine the Lakers giving up on a star like Davis. It would be ideal to rebuild around the duo of James and AD.

The question is whether that is possible.

Assuming he exercises his $47 million player option, Russell Westbrook would be the obvious piece to move. He is going to exercise that option given that he probably won't get half of that on the open market after a poor season.

That option will make it difficult to trade for him. The Lakers do not have a lot of incentives to entice a team to take on that deal.

The Charlotte Hornets had a young and exciting point guard in LaMelo Ball, but they were still a team to watch on the Russell Westbrook front, according to an NBA reporter.

The Lakers will have to package future picks to dump Westbrook on a tanking team with cap space to spare. The Lakers would probably have to take some salary back, and any team that takes on the huge salary of Westbrook should try to pry the first two firsts from the Lakers.

They are stuck with him if they cannot find any other takers for him. It is a very real possibility. The only other option for shaking up the roster is trading since the team has very little cap room to work with in free agency.

I cannot control those things. That is an upstairs thing. A Klutch thing. My job is to play basketball. We will have a conversation about it if that is something they are considering. I don't know what they're talking about.

Nobody knows what the plan is for the Lakers. The last plan flopped so much that they were left in choppy waters.
