It had been too long.

I had American Express Membership rewards points in my account.

I needed some time to think about what I wanted to do in the future.

There was only one thing to do.

It was time for a proper flight, as you might have guessed, and I was testing out the new Suites Class on Singapore Airlines, which recently began flying to the USA.

It was incredible.

A Brief History of Singapore Suites Class

Singapore Airlines made history when they introduced Suites Class alongside the A380.

And it was.

I was lucky enough to fly the previous edition of Suites Class on two separate occasions, trip reports here and here, and a jerk on the internet stole my images and paragraphs for his post about his experience back in 2014).

The service on the A380 was great, but the Suites Class on the bottom deck was old.

Testing out the New Singapore Suites

There was nothing fancy or travel hack-y about how I booked this trip.

It would take 7.5 hours to travel from New York to Frankfurt.

(A quick note about the photos in this post)

The trip was booked at the last minute and I was already in New York City, so I had to shoot with what I had available.

The Suite

I was the first person to board and was whisked to my suite by an assortment of cabin crew, each of them greeting me warmly.

My jaw dropped when I walked through the door.

Each suite has 50 square feet of space.

The Poltrona Frau chair is the centerpiece of the suite and it has seat controls tucked away in the armrest.

The settings are pre-programmed for certain positions, but we will get to that in a bit.

There was a HD television on the wall of the suite.

There is a mini-screen on the forward-facing wall in the two suites at the front.

The entire environment was luxurious, with plush carpeting and thoughtful design touches all around.

I was warmly welcomed by an assortment of cabin crew as I was about to board and walk through all of the functions of the seat and theremovable tablets.

They asked if I would like to drink some champagne after the tour.

They had two selections for me, Dom Perignon 2008 and Taittinger Comtes 2007.

The A380 has a blessing and a curse at the front of the upper deck, as there is empty space around the top of the staircase.

The differences between the Suites

The Suites design works best when the plane is in the air because of the way the seat is made.

The flight itself

I had a glass of champagne and a few glasses of champagne as I boarded, and before I knew it, we were on our way.

The KrisWorld platform, which is brilliantly designed, allows you to queue up entertainment and follow you from flight to flight, and you can connect your KrisFlyer account to it.

I decided to take a break from taking photos and videos to have my first meal, and it began with a champagne refill, but then with some absolutely wonderful chicken satay, which brought me back to wonderful memories of Singapore.

It was time to go with the classic: caviar.

The entree options were not great, even though I used the Book the Cook option on the website.

After a heavy meal, dessert was just a joy: chocolate sorbet and chocolate mousse.

I took more pictures of the Suite after the meal.

The basic pose was for a new social media/dating app profile picture.

I tried to get some more good shots of the Suite.

I grabbed my tripod out of my closet and closed the window shades to take some pictures of my Suite and the one next to it.

There are a few positions that didn't make sense and the seat is great, but it's a lot of space and a lot of how you use it.

The Bed

The original Singapore Suites bed was difficult to use, since part of the seat created the bed, so you couldn't have the seat and bed at the same time.

If you are traveling with a companion, the divider can be lowered to make a double bed.

I took a quick nap and tried to take a break from all the champagne to make sure I was enjoying the flight.

The flight attendant reappeared and asked if I wanted a snack, but I went with the famous Singapore Sling to take a break from the champagne.

As we approached the North American coast, I was asked if I would like another meal, but I did not remember the options I was offered.

And then it was over 🙁

The service manager came by to wish me a pleasant journey and presented me with a Singapore Airlines souvenir teddy bear.

I was trying to enjoy everything for a bit longer, so I sat in my seat for a while longer.

After landing, I retrieved my bag and was checked in for the flight to DFW in 21 minutes, a new record.

Ok, let’s talk about some of the deficiencies of the product

There are two things to consider when reviewing a flight: the hard product and the soft product.

The leather was supple and comfortable, but I wish there was more controls on the seat.

The middle of the seat doesn't point at the center of the TV, so it was confusing.

I've spent a lot of time thinking about it and still have no idea what it is.

Singapore had their list of requirements due to the precedent of the previous iteration of Suites Class, so they ended up with too much space in each Suite.

I spent most of my time in the optimal TV position and loved every second.

The stars of the show: the incredible cabin crew

The title of the post asked if it was my new favorite flight, but I can confidently say it was.

When I am treated with first-class service, it feels academic and almost wasted on me because I don't really participate in it.

The cabin crew were well-trained, well-organized, and everything happened exactly to plan, but what I enjoyed the most was how warm and personable they were.

I would like to say thank you to each of you, because I know some of them will be reading this.

Summing it all up

This was my favorite flight, and it came at the perfect time as I try to work some things out.

If you have the points, or the $7700ish it costs to pay for it, I highly recommend Singapore Suites Class.

What did you think about the class?
