Jackson is the first black woman to be confirmed to the Supreme Court. Judge Jackson will be an associate justice of the highest court in the nation, a role she will be appointed to for the rest of her life.
The D.C. native was a district judge in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. She was appointed by President Joe Biden to fill a seat in the US Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.

Jackson was an assistant public defender from 2005-2007 and argued before the appeals court about 10 times. Several defendants who couldn't afford private counsel were represented by the two-time Harvard grad.
