Jamie Irving will join the board of directors.
Postmedia Network Canada Corp.'s revenue fell 3.3 per cent in the second quarter as the impact of the Omicron variant continued to weigh on results.
In the three-month period that ended in February, Postmedia's digital revenue increased by more than four million dollars, or 14 per cent.
The amount recovered from the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy was reduced in the quarter as government assistance declined. The company posted a loss in the quarter compared to a gain a year ago.
The economy is still in the early stages of recovery, according to Andrew MacLeod, chief executive of Postmedia. The economy was affected by the Omicron variant's arrival this winter and subsequent shutdowns.
MacLeod said that it hurt some of their revenue lines.
Postmedia Network Canada Corp. and its subsidiary Postmedia Network Inc. added Jamie Irving to their boards on Thursday, after the company closed a $16.1 million acquisition of media publisher Brunswick News Inc.
Irving is the chair of News Media Canada, a trade association for newspaper publishers in Canada.
He has been in this industry for 20 years.
The Telegraph-Journal, Times Globe, Times & Transcript, Miramichi Leader and The Daily Gleaner are just a few of the weekly and daily newspapers operated by BNI.
Postmedia launched a parcel delivery service last summer.
As revenue from its legacy print business declines, the company intends to continue to identify and undertake ongoing cost reduction initiatives.
In the second quarter, Postmedia said initiatives related to compensation expense reductions, real estate rationalization, production efficiency and other transformation programs were expected to lead to $6 million in net annualized cost savings.
