Sometimes olive branches can be extended from other sources.

Notre Dame will host Tennessee State in their home opener on NBC in 2023. Correct, you read that correctly. Notre Dame will face off against an HBCU for the first time in program history, and it will be a nationally televised game on NBC.

Marcus is trying to prove that he is not a descendant of Willingham.

The University is excited to bring a pair of great academic institutions that are steeped in tradition together. The Band of the Fighting Irish and the Aristocrat of Bands will perform on the same day as the Tigers and Irish.

Notre Dame will likely beat a team that was 6-7 in 2021. They won't win the halftime show. The battle of the bands will be a big deal. Notre Dame's band is going to get their feelings hurt.

According to The Tennessean, the game is happening because of the friendship between the two head coaches, Eddie George of TSU and Brian Freeman of Ohio State. The ties between Notre Dame head coaches and their friends at HBCUs are what led to the Fighting Irish men's basketball team traveling to the nation's capital to face Howard on their home floor earlier this year.

Brey was on the staff of Coach K at Duke when he recruited Kenny to the school. At the University of Delaware, he was an assistant coach for Brey. The game was supposed to take place in 2021, but had to be changed because of the Pandemic.

When we scheduled this game, the parent of every one of our players said that was really powerful. Brey told reporters that he was thrilled that he was doing that and that his kids talked about it. They asked about the game.

The Howard game was almost lost by Notre Dame. In a game in which they only led by 1 at halftime, the Irish barely held on and won 71-68.

Brey said after the game that they escaped.

Brey extended an olive branch to an HBCU that put them on national TV on an important holiday that commemorates an HBCU alum. It will be the first time an HBCU program enters Notre Dame Stadium to play on a stage like NBC on a Saturday in the fall. The game will put some money in TSU's pocket as these games are usually paid six figures, which is money that HBCUs are always in need of.

The goal is to dominate where you are, not win, according to Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders. Those games are not making money right now. I call them that. That is what some HBCUs choose to do. I'm going to go to these various schools and get kicked, but I'm walking out of there with a million dollars. It's not worth it to me. That is the ultimate sell out to children.

This is an example of how Deion Sanders has no idea what is best for HBCUs. The reason why Howard basketball is playing on FOX and TSU is playing on NBC is because the last time the program played on national television it was humiliated by South Carolina State.
