New York Attorney General Letitia James asked a judge to hold Donald Trump in contempt of court for refusing to comply with a court order to turn over documents.
James asked the Manhattan Supreme Court judge to fine Trump $10,000 for every day he doesn't surrender the documents.
The AG's office says in a court filing that Trump is in violation of the judge's order to give her investigators the documents.
James is looking into the Trump Organization's reported values of real estate assets.
James said that the judge's order was clear: Donald J. Trump must comply with the subpoena and turn over relevant documents.
Instead of obeying a court order, Mr. Trump is trying to evade it. We want the court to intervene because no one is above the law.
In February, a judge ordered Trump, Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump to give additional documents to the investigators.
The order to surrender the documents was 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780
James said that Mr. Trump did not comply with the court's directive to produce all responsive documents by March 31.
The filing said that Trump objected to each of the eight document requests based on grounds such as overbreadth, burden, and lack of particularity.
The filing said that Trump would not produce any documents responsive to the subpoena because his lawyer said that none of the documents could be found.
The attorney general and the Trump Organization will just have to wait until the Trump Organization completes its production to get the documents, according to Trump.
James said in a court filing last week that her investigation has uncovered significant evidence that the Trump Organization used misleading valuations of its real estate assets for more than a decade.
The company used potentially misleading valuations and other misrepresentations to secure economic benefits, including loans, insurance coverage, and tax deductions.
