Tom Brady was a rival of the New England team.
When Brady announced his retirement in February, he was going to become a minority owner of the Dolphins. The idea of putting together a package deal featuring Brady was planned by Miami.
With Brady as a minority owner, the Dolphins would have tried to get his contractual rights from the Buccaneers to add him to the playing roster.
The plan ended when Brian Flores, the former head coach of the Dolphins, filed a lawsuit against the NFL and its teams.
According to the lawsuit, Miami owner Stephen Ross offered Flores $100,000 for each loss in order to improve the team's draft position. Flores said that Ross pressured him into recruiting a quarterback which would have violated the league's tampering rules.
The Palm Beach Post reported that Brady was the quarterback.
Brady can become a free agent in 2023 and possibly join a team such as the Dolphins. He described Brady's initial retirement as an attempted retirement from the Buccaneers.
The all-time great will be 45 years old in August, but age didn't seem to be an issue in 2021 when he completed 67.5% of his passes for a league-best 5,316 yards, 43 touchdown and 12 interceptions.
The future Hall of Famer had an incredible season. His collection of Super Bowl rings is more than any other team in the league.
Brady has six of his Super Bowl rings with the New England Pats, so joining the Dolphins would be quite the development, but those plans are at least temporarily on hold.
