Sources told Jeff Passan on Thursday that the Twins have agreed to acquire right-handed pitchers Chris Paddack and Emilio Pagan from the Padres.
Sources said that the Twins are sending Rogers and Rooker to the Padres.
Paddack was a success in San Diego as a first year pitcher, going 9-7 with a 3.33 ERA. He battled elbow and oblique injuries over the final two months of the season and was shut down in September.
At the start of the spring, the Padres had a wealth of arms, with Yu Darvish, Joe Musgrove,Blake Snell and Nick Martinez leading the charge, and then Sean Manaea coming aboard earlier this month via trade with the Oakland A's. Mike Clevinger will join the staff at some point this month as he works his way back from a second Tommy John surgery performed in September 2020 and some knee soreness that hobbled him late in spring camp.
Paddack was available for trade, and the Twins were a logical partner.
Carlos Correa, a free agent, signed a three-year, $105.3 million contract with the Minnesota Twins. The rotation has been changed in the past year. Bailey Ober is a second year player, Joe Ryan is a first year player, Sonny Gray is a second year player, Chris Archer is a first year player and Dylan Bundy is a first year player.
It's important that Paddack offers some depth, as it's important that the Angels had a plus-6.00ERA in 2021 with the likes of Archer and Bundy.
He made 67 appearances out of the Padres' relief corps last year, posting a 4.83 earned run average.
Rogers saved nine games for the Twins last season, and pitched to a 3.35 earned run average in 40 appearances.
The Twins outfielder hit.200 with nine homers and 16 runs.
