Two of the biggest names in entertainment are coming together to create a virtual space aimed at kids.
The concept of a metaverse remains murky, but the companies say that whatever it is they will be designed as a family-friendly virtual space from the beginning.
The pair makes sense. Lego has had an increasing focus on video games, most recently with the launch of Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which was released this week. Two of the most popular online video games offer a similar style of building as Lego bricks. In the past, Epic has talked about creating a more child-friendly metaverse.
The new partnership joins a host of other attempts from companies building their own interpretation of the metaverse, which to date includes everyone from Pokémon Go maker to the rebranded Facebook and major NFT brands.
There is no information about what this new world will look like, when it will be available, or what platforms it will launch on. Protect children's right to play by making safety and wellbeing a priority, safeguard children's privacy by putting their best interests first, and empower children and adults are some of the principles announced by the companies.
