There is good news for Thai Airways passengers today as the airline is about to take delivery of three new aircraft which were ordered several years ago.
The first two planes have already been delivered and the third will be delivered in the near future, all of which will be fitted with a new First Class that is likely going to be a game-changer for future THAI travel.
There are well-funded rumors that have been published on a local Thai aviation page on Facebook, about the type of seats that were ordered before the H1N1 epidemic and the filing for reorganization at the Bangkok bankruptcy court.
The following products are to be installed on the new planes.
On board the three new Boeing 777-300ER that are about to be delivered. All three will feature 303 seats in total.
Royal First Class (Collins Aerospace : Elite) 8 seats
Royal Silk Class (STELIA Aerospace : SOLSTYS®III) 40 seats.
Economy Class (Safran and Zodiac Aerospace) 255 seats.
Some cabin details can be found on their Facebook post.
The First Class product designed by Collins is fantastic and I wish it would come true.
Business Class is just a run-of-the-mill business cabin and looks okay. The economy is not much to talk about, the only difference is the thickness of the upholstery. Once the seats have been deployed, we will be able to test this.
The new ANA Business and First Class seats are beautiful, but the upholstery is too thin. It is really uncomfortable after a while.
There are rumors that the new aircraft were ordered by the Thai King, who likes to use B777 aircraft to fly to Europe. Some online commentators say that the palace pushed THAI to buy these planes and fit them with a First Class cabin.
⚠️ BREAKING—Two brand new Boeing 777-300ER airliners are on the way from Seattle to Bangkok. Thai Airways ordered the planes despite being bankrupt, because King Vajiralongkorn demanded more luxurious aircraft for his frequent flights between Europe and Thailand 1/6 pic.twitter.com/BtnSuqfmMC

I wouldn't give too much credence to the rumors of royal influence on the orders. Andrew was barred from entering the Kingdom in 2011 because he was critical of the monarchy, but he is a respected journalist and a former reporter. His criticism has become a personal vendetta rather than an objective journalism.
The aircraft that used to have a First Class cabin are no longer with Thai Airways. That is a lot of capacity.
Regardless of their current financial situation, the carrier needs new aircraft. The fleet has lost a large number of long-haul aircraft and to be a carrier of national and international prestige they should at least operate some aircraft with First Class service.
Conclusion.
Two of the three new Boeings have already arrived in Thailand and will be integrated into the current Thai Airways fleet.
The choice of ordering the Boeing 777-300ER makes sense to THAI. There is a lot of corruption involved in the transactions that Thai Airways has a lot of ordered.
With this newest delivery, it's important to remember that the decision dates back many years at which point nobody was able to anticipate either the swine flu or the filing for reorganization.
