Woody: Panthers stuck between a rock and a hard place with Darnold (1:54)

Dan Orlovsky and Damien Woody agree that Sam Darnold is the best option for the Carolinas. 1:45

The Carolinas have spent the off-season looking for a replacement for starting quarterback Sam Darnold.

It is truly whatever happens, because at the end of the day it is out of my control. I know I can be a good quarterback. I have proved it.

I know there is a team, if something happens, that would want me.

The third pick of the draft admitted that the panthers have done a little shot to the ego, but he is prepared for whatever happens.

Carolina general manager Scott Fitterer said the starting job was open and that the team was willing to give up three first-round picks and a player to get Deshaun.

In exchange for three first-round picks and one third-round pick, the Cleveland Browns got a fourth-round pick. The five-year, $230 million deal was a record.

The Carolinas spent the next week at the pro days of three quarterbacks, including the No. 6 overall pick in the draft.

The sixth pick could be used on one of them, but Fitterer didn't rule it out.

At the end of the day, whoever it is, someone has to answer for it. The person in charge. The coach. We will see what they have to say if that happens.

The New York Jets gave up a sixth- and a second- and fourth-round picks to the Carolinas in exchange for Sam Darnold last April.

He won his first three starts for the Carolinas after going 13-25 in three years with the Jets. He missed six games while recovering from a shoulder injury, and was again ranked as one of the worst quarterbacks in the league.

After Matt Rhule was hired, the Carolinas brought back the top pick of the 2011 draft, who had been released in 2020.

Although he went 0-5 as the starter, Fitterer and Rhule haven't ruled out bringing him back.

He welcomed him as a teammate and learned a lot from him.

He was a great guy in the quarterback room. He is a great guy to have around because of his energy. He is a great guy when I come back and play.

I have nothing bad to say about him.

In the past four years, he's been careful not to say anything bad about the Jets or their fans. He said his experience in New York helped him deal with the criticism.

He admitted that he was bothered by some of the criticism.

The part that pisses me off is when people judge my game. You can talk all you want, but I will not do anything at the end of the day.

If I were you, I would be like, "The house you just worked on, piece of sh--." You are so bad at tiling. You need to get another job. Sometimes you want to say things like that, but you can't.

When the Jets made the trade, they went on to select quarterback Zach Wilson with the second pick of the 2021 draft.

At the end of the day, it is not my call, he said.

It is possible that he is in that position again at Carolina.

He said that he was trying to learn the system of new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo.
