Over the past two years, the Buccaneers have made a concerted effort to keep their core together, and that includes substitute players as well.
The last two seasons, Gabbert has been the primary backup to Tom Brady.
This is the third year in a row that Gabbert has chosen to stay with the team.
Gabbert has appeared in 10 games over the past two seasons, throwing for 210 yards, two touchdown and no turnovers. In Week 16 of the 2020 season, he came in and completed nine of 15 passes for 143 yards and two scores, while Brady sat the entire second half.
After being selected 10th overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars, Gabbert went to the San Francisco 49ers, Arizona Cardinals, and Tennessee Titans before landing with the Tampa Bay. He has played in 60 games with 48 starts and has thrown for 9,273 yards, 50 touchdown and 47 interceptions.
The quarterback room is back from last year. Brady came back for his 23rd season after a little over a month of retirement. Second-year pro Kyle Trask and practice-squad favorite Ryan Griffin are also back in the fold.
Two seasons ago, Brady led the team to its first championship, and he will be looking to lead the team back to the Super Bowl.
