The XFL filed for Chapter 11 in April 2020 after the league had to stop play due to the COVID-19 epidemic.
McMahon founded the XFL in 1999. It only had one season in 2001 and lost $70 million.
The league was to be reborn in January. The new XFL only played five weeks before it was suspended.
On April 10, 2020, four weeks after play was suspended, Kevin Seifert and Field Yates reported that half of the XFL staff had been laid off.
The Rock was part of an investor group that spent over fifteen million dollars to acquire the XFL. The league was planning to play in 2021.
In February, the XFL announced a partnership with the NFL to experiment with proposed rules changes, test new equipment and develop prospective officials and coaches. There are no plans to have the XFL serve as a player development league.
The plan was pushed back by two years, but The Rock said in a video in January that training camps would open on January 3, 2023.
The regular season will start on Feb. 18, 2023, according to a Dec. 2021.
It will be six days after the Super Bowl if that date holds.
