Tiger: 'I do' think I can win the Masters (0:43)

Tiger Woods thinks he can win the Masters despite the difficulty of walking the course. It was 0: 43.

12:21 PM ET

Tiger Woods played the second nine at Augusta National on Wednesday in preparation for the 86th Masters.

The first group off the 10th tee were Woods, Thomas and Couples. Time. It was the third time Woods played nine holes this week as he prepares for his first tournament since he was seriously injured in a car wreck.

Couples said that he looked the same, but was a little sharper. On Monday, we flew in and laughed a lot. They were serious today. They are ready to go tomorrow.

Woods hasn't played in a regular tour event in 17 months. The 2020 Masters was played in November because of COVID-19. He was tied for 38th.

Woods will start the first round at 10:34 a.m. On Thursday, with South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen and Chile's Joaquin Niemann. The threesome will start at 1:41 pm. In the second round Friday, in the third-to-last group.

The 1992 Masters champion, Couples, believes that Woods wouldn't be at the Masters if he didn't think he could win a sixth green jacket.

Couples said on Monday that Tiger is not like a lot of us because of his injuries. He is not going to do that. He has won so many times that he is not going to do something mediocre. He will compete and be ready to roll.

Woods was a little limp on the 11th, especially walking down the hill. The pin was on the right side of the green on the par 3 12th. Woods went right at the flag, which he rarely does during tournament play, and his ball hit into the bank and spun back into Rae's Creek.

Woods hit his second shot very well on the par-5 15th. He hit his shot into the bank after dropping another ball. Woods had fun with Thomas and Couples. They decided to skip balls across the pond at the same time after a few minutes of discussion.

On the 18th hole, Woods hit his drive down the middle, knocked his approach to 8 feet, and made a layup. He went to the putting green after he finished the second round.

Thousands of patrons followed Woods and the pair. After they finished on 18 the loudest cheers came from their walk to the 14th tee.

Couples said he was happy to be with his friend again.

Couples said it was a miracle that he looked strong after 14 months. I know he has a leg injury, but he is driving it with his friend. Maybe today was a little more pumped up, got him a few times, but he plays this course as well as he does where he has won seven or eight times. He knows what to do.
