According to sources, Manchester United are close to appointing ten Hag as their next manager.

The man who was interviewed by United last month was on a four-man list. Due to their commitment to their current employers, Tuchel and Nagelsmann were not ruled out as being unattainable.

According to sources in England and the Netherlands, United have settled on ten Hag as their new manager and that the manager of the Dutch team is ready to leave at the end of the season.

The search for a new manager has been led by football director John Murtough and technical directorDarren Fletcher, who have reported to the chief executive Richard Arnold, with the final decision on the appointment being made by the joint-chairman.

According to sources, Arnold and Glazer agree that ten Hag is the best candidate to replace the interim manager, who has been in charge since last December.

The choice for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's successor came down to a straight battle between ten Hag and Pochettino, but the difficulties experienced by Pochettino at Paris Saint-Germain this season, combined with the potential cost of releasing him from the remaining 12 months of his contract at Parc des Princes, left

Solskjaer was fired by United a month short of his third anniversary as manager last November, but he had initially been the favourite to replace him. The club were aware of the fact that the Argentine would be interested in a move to Old United after struggling to impose himself on the job at Paris Saint-Germain.

His chances of getting the United job were hurt by the fact that the club was determined to avoid hiring a manager who had failed in a recent role.

The issue for United was the fact that they were unable to appoint ten Hag if they paid a compensation figure of 1.7 million dollars.

Sources said that Rene Meulensteen, who was first-team coach under Sir Alex Ferguson, is one of the candidates being considered. The new manager will be allowed to present his own targets, but the recruitment department has been told to finish the players' short lists and give them to him.
