T.O. announces return to gridiron in Fan Controlled Football (2:03)

Owens made the announcement that he was joining the league. There is a time and a place.

The popcorn is ready.

Owens is returning to football at 48 years old. He is joining the Fan Controlled Football league, where he is expected to play with Johnny Manziel.

Owens said he was looking forward to throwing with Johnny or whoever the quarterback may be.

Owens hasn't played professionally since 2010, but he insists he can still play at a high level, even though he hasn't played in a while.

I wasn't given the chance to play. Owens said that he didn't mean to say that he retired from the NFL. He isn't in the NFL because he hasn't been given an opportunity.

I can do a lot of things that people don't think I can do. It is not a matter of me trying to prove anyone wrong. I don't like the idea that people see it in the National Football League, it feels like you can't do it at a certain age. I think there are certain people who defy the odds and I am one of them.

Owens kept pace with Hill in a race in 2020. He said he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.2 seconds and is in great shape.

Owens said that if Brady can do it, he too would be no different than Brady. With any sport, injuries are part of the game and the risk is much higher. I don't go into a situation with the idea that I will get hurt or that I can't take a hit; that makes no sense to me. I know that I am a special person.

If an opportunity to play in the NFL arises or comes about because of playing in a Fan Controlled Football league, then so be it. That is not what I am actively pursuing. The partnership is with the Fan Football league. It is to help grow what they are trying to do and even attract some guys who are not doing anything.

The FCF allows fans to make key decisions for their favorite team, including calling plays in real time. The Fubo Sports Network will show the games. Owens will be miked up for the games, the league announced Wednesday, and an alternate game-day broadcast will include Owens behind-the-scenes access and sideline interviews with celebrity guests, FCF owners and players.

"Everybody's skills at some point may decline, but I think there are certain people that kind of defy those odds and I think I'm one of those people." Terrell Owens, 48, on his belief he could still play in the NFL

Owens said fans should expect nothing but touchdown.

Hey, man, we are both competitors. Owens wants to bring competitive Texas A&M to Fan Controlled Football.

Owens played for the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills, and the Cincinnati Reds in the National Football League. He made six Pro Bowls and was named first-team All-Pro five times. He has 15,934 receiving yards.

He tried to convince his former coach to bring him to Kansas City last season, but was unsuccessful. A successful stint in the FCF may open doors that have been closed for the past decade-plus.

Owens said he was looking forward to getting out there and helping mentor some guys.

I'm not looking at this as anything but a good thing. The game of football is violent and fast, and when I am on the field, guys are out there playing. I am a Hall of Famer because of my desire, my dedication, and my discipline. I take the same approach to Fan Football.
