Ronald Koeman will return as the Netherlands boss in 2023.

The man who was sacked by Barcelona earlier this season has not had a job since.

It will be the second spell in charge of his country for the man who led them to runners-up in the Nations League and qualification for Euro 2020.

After the World Cup in Qatar, Louis van Gaal will step down as the Dutch coach because he has been diagnosed with cancer.

I am looking forward to the collaboration. A little over a year and a half ago, I didn't leave the Dutch national team out of unhappiness.

My stay felt good, the results were good, and the click with the internationals was good. We will continue on that path. That is certain for me.

I will be the manager of the Netherlands national team again after the World Cup. I want to reach new successes together.

The Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) said that Ronald Koeman will take over as national coach after the World Cup.

The contract for this with the KNVB will run until the World Cup in 2026 and has now been signed by both parties.

On a Dutch television show called Humberto on Sunday evening, Van Gaal revealed that he has cancer and that he is promoting a new documentary about his life.

The players don't know, according to Van Gaal. They see a blush on my cheeks and think, "what a healthy person that is." That is not the case.

I have been through a lot with illnesses, including with my wife. That is just part of life.

I think that all those experiences have made me richer. I thought that should be in the film as well.

In August 2021, Van Gaal took charge of the Netherlands for a third time, having previously led them to a third-place finish at the World Cup.

Group A of the tournament will include hosts Qatar, Africa Cup of Nations champion Senegal and Ecuador.
