The John R. Wooden Award is given annually to the nation's best player.

Anthony Davis was the last Kentucky player to win the award. The only Kentucky players to win the award are the two big men.

The trophy is the latest addition to the trophy cabinet for Tshiebwe, who won a number of awards, including a consensus first-team All-American.

Kentucky coach John Calipari said last month that the things that he has done haven't been done for 50 years. He finds ways to make a difference in every game. I am proud of him, and it goes beyond the court. He is a joy to coach because he is so thankful and faith-based.

After a season and a half at West Virginia, Tshiebwe transferred to Kentucky midway through the 2020-21 season. He was the best rebounder in the country in the first game of the season against Duke and the second game against Robert Morris.

Huge performances were par for the course. He had a double-double in a game against Western Kentucky, with 27 points and 19 rebound, and in a game against Florida, with 30 points and 18 rebound.

He had 28 double-doubles, including 16 straight to end the season.

The junior big man had a season average of 17.4 points and 15.3 rebound, leading the nation.

The Wooden Award has been given out every year since 1977. Luka Garza won the award last season.

The women's Wooden Award began in 2004 with Duke's Alana Beard. One day after the Gamecocks won the national championship, Aliyah Boston was named the winner of the 2022.
