Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for a Nuremberg-style tribunal to investigate and prosecute Russian war crimes in a Tuesday speech before the United Nations Security Council.

Zelenskyy said that the Russian military and those who gave them orders must be brought to justice.

Zelenskyy's appearance before the United Nations Security Council follows Ukrainian claims that at least 300 civilians were tortured and killed by Russian troops. The bodies were found after Moscow left the suburb. Zelenskyy accused Russia of war crimes after he saw the aftermath in Bucha.

Zelenskyy said that the massacre in the city of Bucha was only one of many examples of what the occupiers have been doing.

Russia faced renewed global outrage over the weekend as gruesome images of bodies scattered across the streets, some with their hands tied and gunshot wounds to the back of the head, emerged.

Zelenskyy said that anyone who has given criminal orders will be brought before a tribunal which should be similar to the Nuremberg tribunals.

Ahead of a proposal to suspend Russia from the Human Rights Council, Zelenskyy spoke.

Russia is a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and wields the right to veto resolutions.

Thomas-Greenfield said on Tuesday that the United States has assessed that members of Russia's forces have committed war crimes. She said that this is the height of hypocrisy.

She said Russia's membership on the council hurts its credibility and it is just plain wrong.

On Monday, President Joe Biden called Russian leader Vladimir Putin a war criminal for ordering violence in Ukraine.

Biden told reporters gathered at Fort McNair that the guy is brutal and everyone has seen it. He should be held accountable.

The Secretary of State told reporters traveling with him that the reports of Russian war crimes in Ukraine are more than credible.

The random act of a rogue unit is not what we have seen in Bucha. It is a deliberate campaign to kill, to torture, to rape. The reports are credible. There is evidence for the world to see.

NATO is working with the UN's International Criminal Court to investigate Russian war crimes in Ukraine, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said on Tuesday.

It is a war crime to target and kill civilians. The alliance chief said all the facts must be established and those responsible for the atrocities must be brought to justice.

The alliance had reliable evidence of war crimes committed in the city of Bucha, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg told reporters at the alliance's headquarters.
