The New Orleans Saints are said to be in talks with free-agent safety Tyrann Mathieu.

Although signing with New Orleans is not imminent, it will be the first in-person visit for Mathieu this season.

One of the best remaining free agents is the New Orleans native and LSU graduate, who has a resume that includes three Pro Bowls, three First Team All-Pro selections and one Super Bowl win.

For most of his nine-year career in the league, he has been considered one of the elite safeties.

He was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame's All-Decade Team for the 2010s despite not playing in the league until 2013).

During his time in Kansas City, he won a Super Bowl and earned two Pro Bowl and two First Team All-Pro selections.

In 2020 he had a career-high six picks. He had three picks last season. One of the highest totals of his career was registered by him.

Over the course of her career, Mathieu has appeared in 129 regular-season games, recording 610 tackles, 26 intercepts, 76 passes defended and 10 sacks.

New Orleans would be in need of a veteran presence at safety if the two sides reach an agreement.

The Saints lost safety Marcus Williams to the Baltimore Ravens in free agency. New Orleans has been hard at work rebuilding its safety group, adding Marcus Maye and Justin Evans to a corps that also includes Chauncey Gardner-Johnson and P.J. Williams.

While the Saints have a good amount of depth at safety, they could still use a player like Mathieu, who is a versatile player who can play any position on the field.

Dennis Allen has a lot of options when it comes to throwing different looks at opposing offenses with the addition of another chess piece like Mathieu.
