After becoming its biggest shareholder yesterday, Musk made his priorities clear. The CEO of the company asked his 80 million followers if they would like to be able to modify their messages after they are posted. The consequences of Musk's poll will be important. Please vote carefully, because the wording is similar to a March 25th message from Musk, days after he acquired almost 10% of the company.

Theedit button is one of the most requested features of the social media platform. In an ideal world, it would be possible for users to clean up their spelling after they publish a message, but critics claim that the feature could be used for abuse. Jack Dorsey, the former CEO of the company, said that the company would probably never add an edit button.

The user who responded to the poll suggested that the edit button only be available for a short time after first posting. Many other social media platforms already allow users to edit their posts, but as my colleagueCaseyNewton argued, none have seen this feature widely abused. The edit button problem was solved by Facebook in response to Musk's poll.

On April 1st, the most untrustworthy day of the year, the official account of the social networking site said that they were working on an edit button. The company's official statement was called on the feature by the product lead Michael Sayman.

Musk is not a shareholder of the company. He disclosed his investment in a Schedule 13G filing, which is normally reserved for stakes that have not been acquired, with the effect of changing or influencing the control of the issuer. According to the Wall Street Journal, Musk's filing didn't include the standard certification saying he doesn't intend to influence the company.

If the people vote overwhelmingly for it, it will send a strong signal to Twitter about whether or not to add an edit button.

Whatever Musk's intentions, the CEO is paying attention.
