  • Conservatives have asked Musk to restore Donald Trump's account.

  • Musk is the company's largest shareholder after buying a 9.2% stake on Monday.

  • The CEO of the company questioned if the company was following the principles of free speech.

Conservative figures are urging Musk to allow Trump to return to the social media platform.

In the days prior to the announcement, Musk had questioned the platform's free speech rules and wondered if a new social media platform was needed.

On March 25, he asked his followers if they thought that free speech was essential to a functioning democracy, and of the roughly two million respondents to the poll, 70% voted no.

On Monday evening, requests to restore Trump's account began to surface, as Musk became the company's largest shareholder.

Excellent job by Musk! Conservative author Brigitte Gabriel said that she would like to see President Trump back in office.

It is time to lift the political censorship now that Elon Musk is the largest shareholder. Colorado GOP congresswoman Lauren Boebert wrote about bringing back Trump.

The ban reversal should apply to anyone who had been taken off the social networking site before.

The act would be brave because the regime is heavily investing in a certain industry and threats will undoubtedly come.

The freedom of speech will allow us to defeat them.

In the wake of the January 6 Capitol riots, Trump's account was permanently suspended.

The former president created his own social media platform called Truth Social, which is an alternative to mainstream social media sites. The platform experienced technical difficulties at launch but has begun to accumulate the same amount of traffic as Gettr.com.

As of Monday evening, Musk had not directly addressed the requests, but he did mention them again by polling users on whether they wanted a button on the platform.

It is not clear how much control Musk wants to exercise over the social media platform since the billionaire owns a passive stake in the company.

Musk can still change his mind and take a more active stance in the company.

Insider asked if they would respond to his request for comment.
