The vast majority of voters in the poll favor an edit button on the service, which is why Musk has launched it.

On the same day it was announced that the billionaire entrepreneur had acquired a 9.2% stake in the company, he sent a message.

Do you want an edit button?

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) April 5, 2022

Musk, one of the most high-profile users and a critic of the service, wrote a post about an edit button that could be the first in a series of posts about aspects of the service he would like to change.

The San Francisco-based company has always held back from introducing an edit button, even though many users have called for it.

In the past, Jack Dorsey has said that his team has been thinking about creating an edit button, but insisted that it would have.

When he was a guest on Joe Rogan's popular show, he said that if there was an edit button, it probably wouldn't allow users to edit past posts.

Instead, it would probably offer a 5-second to 30-second delay in the sending, similar to how email services offer an undo button in the seconds after hitting send. It would not be live during the time in which it could be changed, though it would still offer a chance to fix a mistake or reconsider the decision to post.

We haven't heard much about an edit button in the last couple of years, but we are working on one.

Musk's large stake in the company and recent criticisms of the platform suggest that he could be looking to exert some control over the company.

We would expect this passive stake as just the start of broader conversations with the board/management that could ultimately lead to an active stake and a potential more aggressive ownership role of the company.
