The Los Angeles Dodgers announced Monday that Tommy Davis died Sunday night in Phoenix at the age of 83.
The cause of death was not given by the team. A two-time National League batting champion, Davis spent eight of his 18 MLB seasons with the Dodgers.
He was a three-time All-Star. He was a part of three title-winning Dodgers teams. In 1962, Davis set a Los Angeles single-season record for hits and runs.
The first batting title for Davis was in that year, when he hit...................... He hit.326 in 1963.
According to the Associated Press, Davis was going to sign with the New York Yankees until a phone call from the legendary Robinson changed his mind.
Davis said that his mother wondered who was calling.
Davis played for the New York Mets, Chicago White Sox, Seattle Mariners, Houston Astros, Oakland Athletics, Chicago Cubs, Baltimore Orioles, California Angels and Kansas City Royals. He retired in 1976 with a career average of
Davis is survived by his family, including his wife, daughters and son. The Dodgers will hold a moment of silence for Davis at their spring training game against the Angels on Monday.
