Manager Mikel Arteta says the knee injury that kept Scotland defender Kieran Tierney out of the game at Crystal Palace is not looking good.

The left-back, 24, played 90 minutes of both his country's games last week, scoring against Poland.

Arteta told Sky Sports that he felt something wrong in his knee after returning from international duty.

There is some damage. We will hopefully know more on Tuesday but it is not looking good.

He said that he was going to see a specialist on Tuesday to find out the extent of the injury, but that he didn't think it was positive. We have to wait and see what happens.

The World Cup play-off semi-final between Scotland and Ukraine is expected to take place in early June.

Russia's invasion of the country forced the postponement of Ukraine's visit to Hampden Park.

If Scotland beats Ukraine, they will play Wales in a one-off game to reach the World Cup.

Andy Robertson is the captain of the side and he plays on the left wing-back side with Tierney on the left side of the back three.

The Portuguese defender was withdrawn at half-time at Selhurst Park after he was at fault for Palace's second goal.
