Morbius is here and doing well. The journey to this moment wasn't so smooth because of the methods of its star,Jared Leto.
In an interview with Uproxx, Morbius director Daniel Espinosa confirmed a not-so-surprising rumor about his star. When the cameras weren't rolling, Leto would use his crutches to play his character, Dr. Michael Morbius. It took him a long time to get to the bathroom. It was agreed that Leto would use a wheelchair to get to and from the bathroom.
I think that whatJared thinks is that the pain of those movements, even when he was playing normal Michael Morbius, he needed, because he has been having this pain his whole life. It's people's processes, man, and though Espinosa confirmed it, he didn't knock it. He said that as a director, you support whatever makes it as good as you can be.
It is interesting because it is confirmation of a trend we have been following here on io9 for some time: thatJared Leto can be a menace to his co-stars. Don't forget that the actor admitted sending his Suicide Squad cast members anal beads and used condoms before walking that back. The director said that it was like seeing Jesus walking into a temple, because Niander Wallace was blind. Everyone was in awe. I was moved to tears by it.
Which, we think, is the intended response. Leto's method acting can produce very striking results. If it is putting a movie behind schedule, that is a bigger problem.
