Vera C. Rubin, who introduced me at the Women in Astronomy conference, asked if I thought the dark matter problem was solved. I can't remember what I said in response. The astronomer who had won the National Medal of Science for her work finding the first conclusive evidence for dark matter asked me if I thought it was true. I am certain that whatever I came up with was not very good because it was a problem that I had for a long time. It had never occurred to me that I was allowed to have an opinion on the question.
She didn't show it if I disappointed her with my answer. Nancy Grace Roman, former NASA administrator, was one of the women she asked me to lunch with. Rubin then proceeded to fangirl over Roman, who is often referred to as the mother of the Hubble Space Telescope.
