Capt. Christopher Pike (Anson Mount, center), Number One (Rebecca Romijn, left), and Spock (Ethan Peck, right) are getting their own prequel spinoff series: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, debuting May 5, 2022, on Paramount+.

In the official trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, there is a spot of romance, political intrigue, and interplanetary adventures. The spinoff series will be on Paramount+.

One of the highlights of Star Trek: Discovery's second season was the appearance of classic original series characters. The three reprise their roles.

The task of filling the role of Nurse Christine Chapel is too difficult for Jess Bush.

A bearded and presumably retired Pike opened the brief tease that dropped last month. The first time we meet a retired pike, he is debating leaving from Starfleet. We caught a glimpse of the strange new worlds as a voice called "Pike" came back to action.

The official trailer opens with a scene of a dispute between two alien groups. The aliens don't seem to be expecting him, given his awkward reception. A large glowing golden egg-shaped structure is seen by crew members as they descend to the surface of a comet.

If you want to find new life, go where the aliens are. But that alien life might not be receptive to first contact, as Pike and the Enterprise find themselves under fire by aliens who consider their presence to be blasphemy, and romance blooms for both of them.

Paramount+ will show Star Trek: Strange New Worlds on May 5, 2022. The streaming platform has greenlighted a second season, with Paul Wesley joining the cast as James T. Kirk.
