The former goalkeeper for the US women's national soccer team was arrested after she was found passed out behind the wheel of her car with her two children in the parking lot.

The 40-year-old man was arrested by police in Winston-Salem on Thursday on charges of driving while impaired, resisting a public officer, and child abuse.

The engine of the vehicle was running while her two young children were in the backseat when she was passed out.

The officer that arrived at the scene could smell alcohol on her breath. A blood sample was taken when he tried to administer a field sobriety test.

The woman is scheduled to appear in court on June 28.

There was more to the story than what the charges suggested, but that's what an attorney for a double Olympic gold medalist said.

Hope can't speak about the situation, but she wants everyone to know that her kids are her life, that she was released immediately and is now at home with her family, and that the story is more sympathetic than the situation.

Our kids are strong, intelligent, happy and vibrant, and we are present everyday giving them the best life possible, according to a statement posted on Saturday.

She said she will be able to share the facts in due time.

After eight years of marriage, former NFL player Jerramy Stevens' wife, Solo, gave birth to twins in 2020.

After two months of dating, Stevens was arrested for domestic violence.

Police used a stun gun to break up the fight. He was released because there wasn't enough evidence to charge him. They got married the next day.

She was a highly-decorated athlete with a world championship and two Olympic gold medals to her name, but it all came to an end when she retired.

She was fired from the U.S. Women's National Team after she called the Swedish team "cowards" for their defensive tactics at the Rio Olympics.

She has had run-ins with law enforcement before.

She was accused of attacking her sister and nephew at her home in Seattle. She pleaded not guilty to domestic violence charges.

The soccer star was suspended for 30 days after her husband was arrested for drunk driving. When her husband was arrested for driving the U.S. Soccer team van, she was with him.

On May 21, the National Soccer Hall of Fame will induct goalkeeper Hope Solo.

When asked if it still intended to honor her, the organization did not comment.
