In exchange for a third-round pick in the 2020 draft and a fifth-round pick in the 2022 draft, the New EnglandPatriots acquired wide receiver DeVanteParker from the Miami Dolphins.

There is a clear-cut top four on the depth chart. This likely means the end of the road for the first-round pick, who already had a difficult time breaking through and now faces increased competition. This doesn't prevent the Pats from selecting a receiver in the draft, even though Agholor and Meyers will be free agents after the 2020 season. If the team saw value in using the No. 21 overall pick on a player such as Alabama's Jameson Williams, who is recovering from a tornACL, adding Parker would take immediate pressure off any rookies.

A bigger target who can use his size to win in contested-catch situations is what Parker provides the Pats, something they didn't have. When healthy and at his best, Parker can be an example of what he can be when he is at his best. It's a top four that doesn't have a star but has diverse features.

If he is healthy. Those are three of the most important words when it comes to the 29-year-old, who has battled injuries over the course of his career. He only played one game in the entire season. The front-office executive said that he was a good guy and a good teammate.

There are two fifths and two sixths left in the draft, and the Pats now have eight picks. The team entered the season with six and has since added two fifth-round picks by dealing starting right guard Shaq Mason and in this deal for Parker. The coach likes to have more picks, which allows for more flexibility in trade-wise. The club is expecting a third-round pick next year after losing J.C. Jackson in free agency. The team has had some lean years in regards to the draft in the past.

The team will have to create space to accommodate him if they acquire him and his remaining two years of his contract. Entering the weekend, the Pats had $4.19 million in cap space. It is not a given, but it is likely that the major personnel moves are over as the focus turns to the draft.
