We learned about a new property opening in the Maldives in the year 2021, which will be the fourth property in the country. The hotel is now accepting reservations, and the opening date has been set.

Basics of the new Hilton Maldives Amingiri

Reservations for stays at the new hotel will be accepted from September 1, 2022. The three existing properties in the Maldives are a part of the Hilton- family.

Hilton Maldives reception

I immediately thought of Amangiri, the Aman resort in Utah, when I saw that the Hilton would be located on the Male Atoll. There are pros and cons to that.

  • It’s super convenient to just be able to take a quick speedboat transfer to your resort, rather than having to take a seaplane
  • At the same time, proximity to Male usually means that an island is less beautiful, less untouched, and less secluded, and those are largely things that people come to the Maldives to experience

There will be a private pool in each of the109 villas at the hotel.

The hotel will have a pool, spa, salon, and fitness center, as well as six restaurants and bars. There will be an all-day dining restaurant that serves international cuisine, as well as an adults-only bar that serves champagne and gin-based drinks.

Some parents may appreciate the fact that the resort has a teens-only zone.

Hilton Maldives Amingiri rates & points requirements

If you want to redeem your points, you can get a fifth night free at the hotel, but you will be paying an average of 88,000 points per night. The free night awards can be redeemed here.

Entry level rooms have one bedroom overwater pool villas. Direct access to the ocean from the deck is one of the features of the 1,657 square feet they have.

In the low season rates start at around $800 per night, and in the peak season rates start at over $1,200 per night. I would expect rates to change quite a bit over time, as hotels often aren't realistic with pre- opening pricing.

The Maldives has a lot of points properties…

I think it's a good thing for consumers to have more hotel options. I can't keep track of the many hotels in the Maldives because they are all bookable with points.

There were a couple of points hotels in the islands. There was a novelty to traveling there since it was hard to get to this paradise, and finding availability with points was difficult. Most of the major hotel groups have multiple hotels to choose from, and there are simply so many properties.

Is the Hilton something to be excited about? I have a few initial thoughts.

  • For a “standard” Hilton, this property looks gorgeous; I’m curious if it’s as nice in real life as in the renderings
  • Many people will appreciate that every room here has a private pool, which isn’t the case at many Maldives properties
  • People will either love or hate that this is just a 20-minute speedboat ride from the international airport; that’s really convenient, but will also mean that the resort won’t be as pristine and secluded as some of the properties that are more of a trek to get to
  • While there are more luxurious brands in the Maldives where you can redeem points (Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, Waldorf Astoria, etc.), one benefit of staying at a less luxurious brand is that I’d expect prices on property to be cheaper, for everything from food and drinks to spa treatments to transfers

Reservations for stays at the fourth property in the Maldives will be accepted as of September 2022. It will be convenient to take a speedboat ride from the airport.

Is anyone considering staying at the new hotel?

The tip of the hat to Drew.
