Andy Jassy received more than $212 million in compensation for his first year at Amazon, according to a proxy statement.
The e-commerce chief, who replaced Jeff Bezos last year, received $212,701,169 in total compensation in 2021, the statement showed.
Jassy joined Amazon in 1997 and has been there for 24 years. Prior to his current role as Amazon's CEO, he was the leader of Amazon Web Services.
Jassy is one of the highest-paid executives at the company and he is also a close friend of Bezos.
A small portion of the total compensation figure comes from Jassy's salary, which amounts to $175,000. Much of the rest came from a stock award he received when he stepped into his new role. Jassy was given 61,000 shares that would vest over a decade.
Bezos was paid a base salary of $81,840 and received no stock awards in the year 2021, according to the filing.
On the same day that Amazon workers in Staten Island, New York voted to unionize, the filing was released. The company was disappointed with the outcome of the vote and posted an unsigned statement on its website.
