Tim Ryan, a Democrat running for Senate in Ohio, released a campaign ad that blamed China for issues related to wages and jobs in the US.

The ad, which features Ryan speaking to different groups of workers in his state, references China as an enemy to workers and claims that it is us versus China.

China is out-manufacturing us and it is time to fight back. Ryan said that it starts by investing in Ohio workers.

Asian American Pacific Islander advocates were not happy with the ad.

The campaign ad contributes to anti-Asian sentiment according to critics. Anti-Asian hate crimes and attacks are on the rise in major US cities, with many of them linked to anti-China sentiment.

The AAPI Victory Fund said that the ad was sinophobic and pit Asian Americans against other Americans.

The ad for the Ohio Senate campaign by Rep. Tim Ryan makes Americans of East Asian descent vulnerable to attack, according to Shekar Narasimhan, AAPI Victory Fund chairman and founder.

Ryan told NBC News that he fought for workers and that China is the US's greatest economic adversary.

Ryan said that Ohio workers are the best in the world, and that he would never apologize for doing everything he could to take on China.
