The top-ranked squad has protested during the national anthem in some form since at least January 2021, to bring awareness to racial injustice in our country, according to Dawn Staley.

The anthem isn't played at the home games, but if opposing teams choose to play it, we choose to stay in the locker room.

According to beat reporters who have covered the Gamecocks, South Carolina has stayed true to its philosophy throughout the NCAA tournament. All of their NCAA opponents had stayed off the floor for the anthem as well.

The players and coaches interlocked their arms. Some team members held their hands to their hearts.

The winner of Friday night's first national semifinal will play the winner of the second national semifinal on Sunday in the title game. South Carolina leads Louisville at the half.
