Meta says employees no longer need Covid boosters to come to U.S. offices

Meta Platforms will no longer insist that employees have Covid booster shots in order to come to its facilities in the U.S., a spokesman told CNBC on Friday.

Technology companies are trying to get their workers back to their campuses. Microsoft and Meta held office reopenings in the U.S. on Monday.

Covid-19 boosters are no longer required for entry, though strongly recommended, after we updated our requirements in March to align with CDC guidance.

Less than three months ago, the social network operator announced rules for a return to the office.

The Meta spokesman did not give an explanation for the change.

New York Times data shows that in California, where Meta has its headquarters, 70% of the population is fully vaccined. The newspaper's data shows that case counts have fallen.

Apple requires employees to show proof they have received a booster shot, according to a report.

The FDA approved a second Pfizer -BioNTech or Moderna booster shot for people who are 50 or older at least four months after receiving an initial booster.

The FDA allows the fourth Covid vaccine dose for people 50 and older.
