The researchers from universities in France, China and Australia say that the mantle can change shape over time.

The authors of an essay published in The Conversation said that deep-Earth structures can form like continents and break up over time. The African blob is thought to have been born 60 million years ago, a far cry from previous estimates that it had been there for ten times as long.
